Webinar Series on “Astronomy” – Report 22-03-2021 to 26-03-2021

Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Amateur Astronomers’ Club of Sri Mahaveera First Grade College, Moodbidri in association with Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Mangalore jointly organized a 5 days Webinar series on ‘Astronomy’ from 22nd March to 26th March 2021 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day. The webinar was arranged through the online platforms viz., Google Meet and YouTube live streaming. Teachers and students of various schools and colleges and general public were the targeted audience of the webinar series. The main aim of this webinar was to promote and popularize basic science and also to develop interest about astronomy among the students and the public.

Parents teachers association meeting

Parents teachers association meeting was held on 10/03/2022 under the presidentship of PTA President Sri Abdul Rehman. Principal of Sri Mahaveera College Dr. Radhakrishna Shetty highlighted various activities of the college. Executive member of PTA Sri Sucharitha Shetty requested all the parents and guardians to maintain contact with the college to know academic progress of their children. PU Principal of Sri Mahaveera College Prof. Ramesh Bhat spoke on this occasion. Executive members Sri Sathya kumar Hedge and Smt Shashiprabha were present on this occasion. Around 350 parents attended this meeting.

Orientation Program for the First Year Degree Students

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Alumni Association of the college jointly organised an Orientation Programme for the first year degree students on 10th, 11th and 12th November 2021. The major focus of the program was to ensure the students aware of the academic aspects of the course, enhance skills, setting goals, understand the new education policy and make the students aware of college environment.

10th November 2021 – Inauguration

Inauguration of the three days orientation program was held on Wednesday, the 10th November 2021 in the College Auditorium at 9.30 a.m. The program began with an invocation by Apoorva of III B.A., Nireeksha of II B.Sc. and Sowmya of II B.Sc. Prof. Harish, the Students Welfare Officer and H.O.D. of Commerce welcomed the gathering. Sri Sampath Samrajya, Deputy Chairman, SMC Governing Council inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural speech, he highlighted the necessity of induction programme. He gave certain tips for the students to get success in life by giving live examples. The program was presided over by Dr. Radhakrishna, Principal, Sri Mahaveera College. Mr. Nagaraj B., President of S.M.C. Alumni Association, Prof. Ramesh Bhat, Principal, S.M.P.U. College were the Chief Guests. Mrs. Geetha Ramakrishna, H.O.D. of Economics proposed the vote of thanks.

Session 1: Topic - Goal Setting
Resource Person – JCI Varsha Kamath
Time: 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

JCI Varsha Kamath delivered a talk on ‘Goal Setting’. She stressed on why the goals are important, how to set proper goals and how to achieve them. She emphasised on positive thinking and also she explained how to analyse the dream and achieve goal.

Session 2: Topic – Educational Excellence
Resource Person – Jc. Rajendra Bhat

JC Rajendra Bhat, a renowned National Level trainer delivered a talk on ‘Educational Excellence’. He explained how to achieve educational excellence by doing hard work with the help of real examples. He also mentioned the good qualities a student must inculcate to achieve success in life. The session was interactive and all the students actively participated.

Day 2 – 11th November 2021
Session 1: Topic – Today & Tomorrow
Resource Person – Mr. Nagaraj B., M.D., Novo Tree Minds Consulting Pvt. Ltd.
Time: 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.

Mr. Nagaraj B., M.D., Novo Tree Minds Consulting Pvt. Ltd. delivered a talk on ‘Today and Tomorrow’. He appealed the students to develop good habits to achieve success in life. He stressed the importance of the qualities which are to be maintained every day to get better tomorrow.

Session 2: Topic – Use of Technology
Resource Person – Mr. Sanjay Bhat, M.D., Mindful Consulting, Mangalore
Time: 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

Mr. Sanjay Bhat, M.D., Mindful Consulting, Mangalore took a virtual session on the topic ‘Use of Technology’ through Zoom Meet Platform. The session was informative. Mr. Sanjay Bhat emphasised on the importance of technology in modern world. He gave few tips to the students for better use of technology. Along with this, he announced a Book Reading competition to inculcate the reading habit among the students, which is to be held in the month of January 2022.

Session 3: Topic – Scholarships for Degree students
Resource Person – Mr. Chandrashekhar S., Senior Engineer, M.C.F. Ltd., Mangalore
Time: 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Mr. Chandrashekhar S., Senior Engineer, M.C.F. Ltd., Mangalore gave information about the various scholarships available to students under various categories. He also mentioned the different Govt. Schemes for students and the procedure to be followed to avail the facility.

Session 4: Topic – Health & Hygiene
Resource Person – Dr. Ashirvad, Prabha Clinic, Shirthady
Time: 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.

Dr. Ashirvad, Prabha Clinic, Shirthady explained the need of paying attention to health and hygiene. He mentioned the present pandemic situation and safeguarding methods to be taken during this situation. He stressed on maintaining sound mind and body for academic excellence. At the end of the session the students who worked as volunteers in Felicitation of Corona Warriors Virtual Ceremony conducted by S.M.C. Alumni Association were given certificates of appreciation.

Day 3 – 12th November 2021
Session 1: Topic – New Education Policy
Resource Person – Dr. Praveen K., H.O.D. of Political Science
Time – 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.

Dr. Praveen K., H.O.D. of Political Science took a session on New Education Policy. He explained the importance of NEP and provided proper information of various subjects of different streams which are included in NEP. He assisted the students by giving information about subject to be opted in various semesters.

Session – 2: Topic – How to become a Chartered Accountant
Resource Person – Mr. Shivaprasad, Dept. of Commerce
Time – 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m

Mr. Shivaprasad, Dept. of Commerce spoke on the topic ‘How to become a Chartered Accountant’. He explained the eligibility criteria subjects of CA Foundation Course, fee structure of the course and the procedures of CA exam. He also clarified the various doubts of students about CA course.

Mangalore University Level Science Model Exhibition

Preliminary University Level Science Model Exhibition Competition organized by Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishad aided by Karnataka Science & Technology Academy, Govt. of Karnataka in collaboration with Dept. of Collegiate Education, Govt. of. Karnataka was held in our College on 8th March, 2016. Winners of this round are eligible to take part in the State Level Model Exhibition Competition.
